What is a “Space”?

A space is a virtual environment with a specific theme where people can meet, chat and join game rooms to progress in that space, compete against each other, collaborate or even play alone.

So for example, a Gamify Space such as http://gamify.com/valentine is an environment that is made to “Gamify Valentine’s Day”. The space contains doors to different game rooms that have relevant content for Valentine’s Day and special challenges and objectives. All points earned on /valentine/, stay in that space only. So if you left /valentine/ and joined http://gamify.com/soda/, you would have an entirely different score for that space.

This makes it possible for Gamify to keep balance. Players earn some rewards(levels, points) that stay only in the Space they earned them so that players can compete in your Space to be the top fan!

Other rewards such as achievements, character specific rewards(emotions, actions) or items(power-ups, avatar customizations, room decorations) can be used anywhere in Gamify!

What does my company have to do to set up and manage a Gamify Space?

Our goal is to make it as simple as setting up a Facebook Page! You go through some simple setup steps, and then you can customize the games, your logo and other simple options to instantly get started. There will be more advanced options available to those with the resources and time to dive in more. But the important thing is that you don’t have to hire anyone to get started and begin instantly benefiting from your Gamify Space!

Which platforms does Gamify work on?

The short answer is, basically every platform! Gamify is an HTML5 Social Game World, meaning that it can played on PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android & BlackBerry devices and more! Of course the front-end user experience must be customized for each device, which is something we will be working on improving over time to insure the user experience is perfect on every device. That means with a single Gamify Space you can promote the space across the web and on every device!

What kind of rewards do players win in my space?

That is up to you! You can give away virtual rewards(we recommend in limited quantity to make them more special) as well as creating other type of “rewards” such as having V.I.P. members areas and more. You also can have real rewards. For example, part of the reward for reaching Level 5 in your space could be earning a coupon code for a real product or for some promotion. We already have pages on Facebook and Twitter, why do we need Gamify?

That’s great! Having a Gamify Space is entirely different than having a Facebook or Twitter page. In fact Gamify is actually better if you have active social network accounts because you can now earn more likes, followers and get people tweeting and sharing using Gamify! Most Gamify players have authorized Gamify access to their Facebook and Twitter profiles, which allows you to have gameplay and interactions that require your fans to do things like share content to access V.I.P. areas, etc.! What type of Games does Gamify have?

Gamify games initially will all be simple games, consisting of games of luck and games of skill. The games are designed to be simple enough for anyone to immediately enjoy with other people, or by themselves. We focus on pure simple fun. What kind of technology is powering Gamify?

Gamify is built with the latest in real-time technology, using Node.js and Socket.io for real-time interactivity. Gamify is entirely HTML5 and thus works on almost every device with an internet connection. Gamify’s proprietary game engine is powered by our Gamification Platform, which we began development on in late 2010. It was originally designed to be used as a SaaS solution for brands to gamify their websites. We eventually came to the conclusion that Gamify could have a much larger impact by creating an experience for regular people that any business in the world could tap into instead of a solution that only a few hundred companies could use.

How does Gamify compare to Second Life?

The short answer is, they’re entirely different. Yes, Gamify and Second Life are both in a way Virtual Worlds, but that is where the similarities end. Second Life is comparatively hard to grasp and learn for a beginner, is entirely 3D, not easy to share with others and is focused primarily on chatting and creation of clothing. Second Life allows players to create absolutely anything and as a result is full of explicit content. Gamify at first will not support the creation of adult content. In the future, if we ever add the ability for users to generate virtual content and design it themselves, we will put in place protocols and technology to insure adult and non-adult themed content are always entirely separate so that you do not have a player running around in something inappropriate on your company’s branded Space or in a youth themed Space. Gamify gives brands their own URL that can easily be shared with anyone around the world. So unlike Second Life, you will be able to share a link straight to your content that can be accessed by anyone around the world -- without requiring them to install anything, learn anything, have special hardware or even have registered yet! Second Life takes a while to load, while Gamify spaces load typically in 1 second on an average internet connection. Second Life was not built with gameplay in mind. Gamify was designed to be fun and playful, and easy for anyone to use. Gamify’s purpose is to turn “Everything’s a Game” into a reality, creating the official social game for the web, mobile and life.

Who is Gamify?

Gamify is a startup based in San Francisco that was started in 2010 by gaming entrepreneur Nathan Lands, and technology innovator J.R. Bédard. Nathan and J.R. created Gamify together with the belief that they could possibly use games to change the world for the better, and at the very least make the web a lot more social and fun.
